Homemade Tortilla Chips
Homemade Tortilla Chips
These homemade tortilla chips are crispy, golden, and perfect for nachos, dipping, or snacking. Using corn tortillas gives the best crunch, but flour tortillas work well too. Frying in beef tallow adds extra depth of flavor, but any frying oil will work.
Ingredients
- Corn or flour tortillas
- Beef tallow (or preferred frying oil)
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
-
Prepare the Tortillas
- Stack the tortillas and cut them into triangles.
-
Heat the Oil
- In a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot, heat beef tallow over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
-
Fry the Chips
- Drop the tortilla triangles into the hot oil in small batches.
- They cook quickly, so flip them as needed to ensure even browning (about 30-45 seconds per side).
-
Drain and Season
- Remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack to drain.
- Lightly sprinkle with salt while they are still warm.
-
Serve
